GROBY CUP RUNNER-UP
More cup brilliance & a day to be proud of for our boys
Another brilliant day and almost another trophy as Highfield Rangers again exceeded expectations to make it to the Groby Jrs Cup final.
In a five team group alongside established division 1 & 2 teams such as Croft Jr & Thurlaston Magpies, the new look Rangers team managed to finish top of thier group & remained unbeaten with no goals conceded.
After a long wait Highfields were set to play Birmingham based Cadbury Athletic in the final. A very tight first half saw a strong midfield battle but with no clear cut chances either way & no team really in control of the match.
The second half was as cagey as the first until an unfortunate own goal put Cadbury Athletic 1-0 ahead & despite their best efforts, Rangers couldn’t create the chance they needed to get level. With 5 mins left, a really well worked corner routine gave the Birmingham team their second goal & with no time to get back into the match it finished 2-0 to Cadbury Athletic.
Although the whole squad were disappointed not to come away with another trophy, Highfield Rangers left in high spirits after a fantastic day of football and all have every reason to be very proud of themselves.
